🇨🇾 Cyprus

01

In 2017, Cyprus passed a law allowing for the treatment of patients with advanced stages of cancer with medical cannabis oil. This law was expanded in 2019 to include patients suffering from chronic painful conditions associated with cancer, HIV, degenerative diseases of the motor system, rheumatism, neuropathy and glaucoma, as well as Tourette’s syndrome and Crohn’s disease.

02

As well as this expansion in eligible conditions, the 2019 law legalised the cultivation, manufacture, import and export of cannabis.

03

Despite the progress made in legalising the medical use of cannabis in Cyprus, a larger regulatory framework for patient access has not been developed. The only way a patient could access medical cannabis is under exceptional approval from the Minister of Health, upon application by a physician on behalf of the patient. Likewise, there has been no development of a medical cannabis production industry in the country.

04

Until there is further regulatory development, medical cannabis activity in Cyprus will remain limited.
